the-power-of-prayer

Review by Jason Hillingdon

This book is based on the premise that “ye have not because ye ask not”. I would recommend that every would-be prayer warrior read it because it is the case even today – that we have not because we ask not – James 4:2.

Torrey sets out clearly what the Bible states about prayer, and articulates why through the ages God’s people have been weak at the Throne of Grace. It is so true that “Prayer Will promote our personal holiness as nothing else, except the study of the Word of God”. And yet so often we ‘shoot a prayer skyward’ that is meaningless, and wonder at God’s reticence in answering.

There are too many books on “effective intercession” and on “getting what YOU want” from God. The self-help books of today are man-centred, and I’m sure that most people who use them are not praying as they should. May we get back to the times of effectual, fervent prayer, and out of the doldrums of unscriptural supplication and prayerlessness.
